restaurants, drives, walks or excursions which our members determine provide
an exceptional travel experience — that is, they’re travel “gems.”

Twain Awards
The Mark Twain Awards are given for excellence in travel writing and
photography in various categories.
Mark Twain Travel Writer of the
Year Award
TThe Mark Twain Travel Writer of the Year Award is given to MTWA’s
best overall writer, selected from winners of the various Mark Twain Awards.
Fred Burns Memorial Award
The Fred Burns Memorial Award is given to a travel-related public relations individual or
organization that has shown outstanding professional support to travel journalists. The award is named after
Fred Burns, a Cincinnati newspaperman from 1911 until 1958 who created a travel section for The Cincinnati Times-Star
in 1929. Fred was a member of MTWA and served as president in 1954.
Spotlight Award
This award is given to an Associate who has done exceptional work for a client that proved quite beneficial.
